Everything I own is the color of teal deer, because my mother is convinced it is the same color as the famous jewelry store Tiffany & Co.’s green, and she gets a kick out of that. I don’t mind terribly much; it’s a nice color and reminds me of warm, bright days, though I don’t understand how anyone derived the color “teal” from anything deer-related. Some other entertaining names of approximately the same shade include: Cactus Pete (who’s Pete?), Weekend Gardener, Sally O’Malley, Zeal, and Jacob’s Jade (who’s Jacob?). I’ve yet to discover who gets to name paint colors, and what credentials they might need to hold.
Today I rediscovered the sun and the lakefill, learned that pancakes are a perfectly acceptable midnight snack, and discovered the site Ambient Mixer. Users can create a soundscape through whatever pastiche of ambient noises they choose to put together. I have been experimenting with a number of “compositions” in an effort to understand why we classify certain sounds as dark, and certain sounds as bright. I’ve yet to find this shade of green.
